SPF: Sun Protection Fun!

With summer approaching, we’re all daydreaming of tan lines and rosy cheeks from lying in the UV 10. One thing we all need to keep in mind, though, is our skin. If applying SPF isn’t already a step in your daily facial routine, it should be joining now. Today, we’re going to look at some of the sunscreens I’ve seen while scrolling social media and talk about what I’ve heard about them. This may seem like an extra, excessive step, but if it’s any consolation, daily SPF prevents the formation of wrinkles, helps with hyperpigmentation and helps to fade acne scars.

As a disclaimer, before we get into the sunscreens, each of these will work differently for everyone. These descriptions are what I’ve seen them advertised as and what I’ve heard people say about them. You may have a different experience from the description I provide, but that’s just because everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products.

Innisfree

Innisfree is a lightweight Korean sunscreen that leaves behind no white cast while also being very hydrating. It is infused with green tea and cica while also including hyaluronic acid and squalene to ensure it takes care of your skin. At Sephora, you can get this sunscreen for $10 (the mini version) or $22 (the regular size). You can also source this product from Amazon for a lower price, $18.

La Roche-Posay

One of my personal favorite brands. Their products tend to be on the more expensive side, which is one of their only downfalls, but honestly, it’s worth the price. The sunscreen is one of my newest purchases. It is dermatologist-recommended. Their face and body sunscreen can range from $29 to $39, while their tinted mineral sunscreen tends to run more pricey at $39 to $43. Very easy access, you’ll be able to find La Roche-Posay at most stores — CVS, Target, Ulta and places alike.

Krave Beauty

After looking into this sunscreen, it is said to be similar to the Innisfree sunscreen. It is very lightweight, leaves no white cast and is said to feel almost more hydrating compared to Innisfree. It contains beetroot extract, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. Typically $20 for 50 ml. Slightly more difficult to access, you’ll need to order from their website or Amazon.

Prequel

This brand has a mineral sunscreen as well as a chemical sunscreen option. Their mineral sunscreen is said to be heavier than the chemical, but both were developed by dermatologists and are safe for sensitive or acne-prone skin. The mineral sunscreen, which is SPF 50, is priced at $22, while the chemical sunscreen, SPF 46, is priced at $25. Prequel is in a variety of different stores like CVS, Target and Ulta.

Very lightweight chemical sunscreen, which includes hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan to provide deep hydration. You have the option of either 50 ml of SPF 30 for $20 or SPF 50 for $19. The sunscreen has a non-oily feel while also being fragrance-free, alcohol-free, vegan and cruelty-free.
