One of the best parts about Penn State’s campus is its beautiful landscape. Now that it’s spring, it’s the perfect time to take a blanket and some snacks out with some friends or roommates and have a picnic.
Old Main is a landmark building of Penn State’s University Park campus and has beautiful grounds surrounding it for students to enjoy.
The weather is warming up and Old Main’s lawn is waiting. If lounging out on the grass has ever seemed appealing, this is your sign. It’s the season for going outside and soaking up some sun.
What you’ll need
-A blanket or towel you don’t mind getting a little dirty: Think about designating a single blanket just for bringing outside
-A cooler for snacks or drinks
-Food or snacks that are easy to transport: Sushi, sandwiches, sliced fruit or vegetables
-Drinks: Reusable water bottles are a great way to bring fluids for hydration
-Sunglasses
-A large bag or tote to carry supplies in
-Company
-A camera: Bring something to capture the moment, whether it be your phone or a disposable!
Tips
-Check the weather beforehand: Pennsylvania weather can be unpredictable, especially in the early spring. Check to make sure there’s no rain and plan a day where the ground is dry
-Go during a time where the lawn is less crowded, like a weekday afternoon
-Social distance according to CDC guidelines
-Don’t dismiss the spots to the sides of Old Main, they can be just as good if not better than the front
Reminders
-Leave the place you decide to sit down at better than you found it, we all have a responsibility to keep the campus clean for everyone else
-Recycle and dispose of all waste properly
