The Centre Film Festival returns to Centre County from Nov. 11 to 17, showcasing over 200 films across documentary, narrative and experimental genres. This year’s lineup includes shorts, features, animated films and premieres — with screenings at local venues and select films available online. In-person screenings will take place at the State Theatre downtown and the Rowland Theatre in Philipsburg. Hybrid viewing options are also available.

Founded in 2019 by Pearl Gluck, associate professor of film at Penn State, and the late Curt Chandler, the festival has grown with a mission to spark dialogue through cinema. The films for this event have been chosen to honor Native American Heritage Month in November.

Special Themes

Each night brings a different theme, celebrating genres from horror to sports and recognizing Native American Heritage Month. The selection includes films that explore migration, refugee stories and Middle Eastern perspectives.

A Growing Impact on Community

Supported by Penn State and the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, the festival’s influence stretches across the county. Screenings and events are designed to engage both the local community and Penn State students.

The Centre Festival Community Game, a scavenger hunt in collaboration with local businesses, offers an interactive alternative to film screenings. This activity provides participants with a chance to explore Centre County and engage with local businesses while enjoying the festival differently.

Opportunities for Students

The festival also serves as a hands-on learning experience for Penn State students. From operations to publicity and social media, students can gain experience in the film industry. First-year students and film production majors are encouraged to participate, often working directly with professional filmmakers attending the festival.

Tickets and Accessibility

The Centre Film Festival is committed to accessibility, offering a free all-access pass for students with ID. Non-students can purchase a $60 all-access pass, $12 individual screening passes or $10 virtual passes. Free shuttle service is available to make the festival even more accessible.

The Centre Film Festival showcases cinema’s ability to inspire, connect and spark conversation. With a diverse lineup, this year’s festival promises something meaningful for anyone passionate about film, storytelling or community.
