Halloweekend 2025

Halloween weekend in Happy Valley always brings out the best in creativity. From downtown apartments to frat basements, everywhere, Penn State students turned the streets into a runway of clever, nostalgic and iconic looks. This year, a few costumes stood out from the crowd.

Some costumes never lose their spark. Catwoman continues to be a go-to for students who want a sleek, confident and effortlessly-cool look. The 2025 version featured shiny leather pants, corset tops and winged eyeliner sharp enough to stop someone in their tracks.

The best part about Catwoman is how easily it can be personalized. Whether inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer’s boldness, Anne Hathaway’s elegance or Zoë Kravitz’s edge, this costume proved that confidence is the best accessory.

Dr. Seuss got a college upgrade this year. The classic trio of The Cat in the Hat with Thing 1 and Thing 2 made a comeback in bright reds and blues that popped against the October chill.

Penn State students brought the children’s book to life with fuzzy wigs, painted whiskers and coordinated outfits that felt both nostalgic and fun. The playful energy of the group made it one of the most photographed looks of the weekend. It reminded everyone that Halloween doesn’t have to be scary to be a hit.

For those who love a strong pop culture moment, the Kill Bill costume was hard to miss. Inspired by Uma Thurman’s iconic yellow jumpsuit, this look was equal parts fierce and cinematic.

Penn State students recreated it with matching stripes, toy katanas and slicked-back hair. The costume celebrated power and individuality while still keeping things recognizable and easy to pull together. It was a clear favorite for anyone channeling main character energy.

Cereal Icons

One of the most creative group costumes of the weekend featured four friends dressed as cereal mascots. Lucky Charms, Cap’n Crunch, Trix and Fruity Pebbles came to life through colorful wigs, bold makeup and thrifted outfits that fit each brand’s personality. The idea blended humor and nostalgia in a way that felt perfectly Penn State. It was playful, unexpected and instantly crowd-pleasing.

From classic icons to clever group ideas, Penn State students proved once again that Halloween is more than a night to dress up. We wonder how they will top their costumes next year …
