Spring 2019’s series of fall Fashion Weeks kicked off the season on Friday, Feb. 8 in New York City. The first in the tour of the world’s most bustling cities featuring the most incredible runway shows, New York Fashion Week was filled with feathers, fluff and frill. The rest of the Fashion Week locations followed suit, as designers debuted over-the-top pieces highlighting the upcoming fall season’s favorite trend.

Little-known Japanese dress and costume designer Tomo Koizumi started off the week with an elegant array of extravagant, colorful gowns. In layers upon layers of tulle, high profile models like Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski, and actresses like Rowan Blanchard stunned in Koizumi’s line. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the rookie designer was discovered only one month ago on Instagram.

Carolina Herrera’s fall 2019 line incorporates bright, lively colors that will carry the spirit of summer long into the winter months. Dresses in this collection feature a sweet mix of bubblegum and flamingo pinks, zesty oranges, canary and mustard yellows and a range of blues. Model Mayowa Nicholas was photographed behind-the-scenes of the show wearing a pink dress with layers of tulle and satin.

Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection kept things pretty neutral, but included grand, intricately designed dresses. A true modern wedding dress, everyone is saying “I do” to de la Renta’s one-shoulder feather gown. The late-designer’s official Instagram account posted a picture of the dress of February 12 saying, “Ethereal feathered frocks are a dream backstage,” and VALLEY couldn’t agree more. This dress is already so popular that acclaimed actress Lupita Nyong’o wore it to the 91st annual Oscars.

Designer Peter Pilotto’s Ready-to-Wear collection is full of sherbet-colored looks, and this trench combines Pilotto’s trend with a huge trend of the season: feathers. A furry peachy-patterned lapel with pinky-lavender feathers peeking out from underneath is both chic and guaranteed to keep you warm.

Max Mara’s creative director Ian Griffiths described his fall 2019 collection as “a thorough analysis of how clothes empower,” according to an Instagram post by WWD. Among a line of mostly neutral beiges and taupes, this trio of fluffy technicolor coats is a modern display of empowerment through fashion.

Moncler’s fall 2019 collection of puffer gowns in collaboration with designers Liya Kebede and Pierpaolo Piccioli may not have visible feathers, but it’s the inner poof that makes these gowns so elegant and unique. Moncler described the line of colorful and intricately patterned pieces as “couture that connects cultures” on their Instagram, as it is inspired by Ethiopian artisans.

Chinese designer Angel Chen took inspiration from an ancient tribe of nomadic shepherds called the Qiang people for his fall 2019 coed collection, according to WWD online. Both men and women took the runway in Milan donning boucle wool coats patterned with orange, yellow and red designs with pops of purple and blue.
