You have probably seen plenty of animated movies featuring the coolest toys of all time, starting with “The Lego Movie,” “Transformers,” and “Toy Story” among others, but now thanks to Greta Gerwing we finally have Barbie the movie featuring Margot Robbie.
Greta Gerwig: The Director
Variety confirmed in July 2021 that Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach will be directing the movie we have all been waiting for, “Barbie.”
Margot Robbie Gives a Statement About Her New Movie
She mentions that the movie comes “With a lot of baggage!” In her Vogue interview in June 2021. She states that the movie is filled with “Nostalgia connections but with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, Oh, well, maybe I don’t….” Margot Robbie.
Guess Who Is Playing Ken
Yep, you guessed it right! Ryan Gosling will be playing this role. On June 15, Warner Bros shared a picture of Gosling with bleach blond hair exactly like the Ken doll.
The Cast Gets Better And Better
Robbie and Gosling are not the only actors featured in the new Barbie movie. The New York Times stated that in “Barbie,” there’s not only one Ken and Barbie. It was also mentioned that Hari Nef will be playing Doctor Barbie, Dua Lipa will be playing Mermaid Barbie, Nicola Coughing will be playing Diplomat Barbie and Issa Rae will be playing Barbie President.
Within the other Kens and Barbies, we have Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa from “Sex Education” performing in these roles.
Humans in “Barbie”
America Ferrera has a role in the movie as well however there are no details of what character she will be playing. However, on a new poster, she was described as one of the “humans” that will be added to the Barbie movie.

In April 2022, social media was blasting new actresses that were added to the cast, starting with Kate Mckinnon, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, and Will Ferrell.
The fact that Emma Mackey was added to the cast created opinions on Twitter due to her resemblance to Margot Robbie, but sources all spilled out that the narrative of the movie will be directed by Helen Mirren.
Barbie The Movie Has Been a Long Time Project
Since 2014, Sony has been trying to produce the film. It has been delayed because they first produced “Sex and the City,” then “Ocean’s 8” and finally Sony gave up the project. Now, Warner Bros is in charge and they wrapped up the project with producers Gerwig and Baumbach; there’s no specification of how many previous versions done by Sony of this movie exists.
The Release date
On July 21 of 2023, the movie Barbie will be released in theaters.
