Let’s set the scene: It’s Sunday morning, and you’re violently hungover. You wake up and immediately reach for your water on your nightstand with a pounding headache. The last thing you want to do is open your laptop and go on Canvas to see what assignments are due before class tomorrow.
But what if you didn’t have to?
You look out the window, and you see mounds of snow falling from the sky. Your mind immediately resorts to the fact that it’s going to be a snow day!

This snow day won’t be like any other snow day. You’re 21 now, and you’re a senior — what could be better than trekking through the snow to your favorite local bar with your best friends?
The Freedom
As a senior in college, you feel as though the leash has been removed, and you can finally relax and enjoy the college experience.
There are no worries or stressors — we’ve already applied to graduate, and some of us even have post-graduation jobs lined up.
The freedom tastes a little sweeter on days like this. You and your roommates bundle up in as many layers as possible — or as many needed to prevent frostbite on your walk to Doggie’s Pub. Classes are canceled. Emails and assignments can wait. The snow and wetness soaking your socks during your walk aren’t bothering you for once, mainly because you know that these moments are numbered and that graduation is slowly approaching.

Inside the bar, coats pile onto chairs, drinks hit the tables and suddenly, the hangover doesn’t feel so violent anymore. There’s something comforting about being surrounded by the same faces that have seen you through the worst and best experiences of your life, four years of becoming someone new. This is the part of college you don’t see on a syllabus.
Snow days will always look a little different from now on — that’s the part of growing up nobody really saw coming. They used to mean sledding, drinking hot chocolate and climbing into the igloo on your front lawn that your dad made for you. Now, they mean being surrounded by the strangers you met four years ago, recapping memories and simply trying to enjoy the moment.
