What? Like it’s Hard?

All over social media, old videos of the makeup artist Jeffree Starr have been circulating, noting his meticulous choice in arranging his eyeshadow palette. Many viewers have noted how it seemed like they were watching Einstein at work and how he applied his makeup in such an intelligent yet unconventional way.

In some way, we all have some abnormal aspect of our lives that our wisdom seems to thrive on. For example, we all know a friend, or maybe we are the friend that can find the entire family tree of someone you like. Scrounging the internet for hours with only their first name and their back profile might seem like an impossible task to most but it can practically be a day job for some. Give them half a day, and you’ll know their aunt’s second cousin’s Facebook and their Social Security Number.

Or another time, where instead of taking notes in your class that you most definitely need to understand for your upcoming midterm, you browse Ticketmaster and enter the queue at only the right moment so you can snag your tickets. Waiting thirty minutes while your professor passes out your past quizzes to refresh exactly at 10 a.m. is a sport. Given the fact that you beat out 250,000 other fans in the waiting room, VALLEY gives it to you: that’s a sign of intelligence.

We can’t forget about those times that you calculated the exact time to purchase those seemingly ugly shoes that your friends couldn’t stop laughing at, but later turned out to be one of your best investments. Planning that shoe’s revival in the fashion scene was not a fluke, it was an analysis of the industry trends and a whole lot of math. Being a mini-Emma Chamberlain — or rather an investment analyst — proved to save you a lot of money in the long-run (by buying before the costs went up) and gave you bragging rights until the next trend emerges (and you’re put to the test again).

All in all, while it might seem that sometimes school bogs you down and you feel burnout more often than not, don’t think that you lack intelligence completely! There’s so many aspects in our lives that we can shine in, and though you may not be able to build a rocket, you can use your personal experiences and general knowledge to thrive in unconventional ways too. After all, you do have to be pretty smart to flawlessly keep records and track trends in a way that those people on Wall Street envy.
