The Yearning Continues

The second season of “Nobody Wants This” dropped on Oct. 23. The first season, with its lovable cast and smart quips, was nominated for three comedy Emmys in 2025. VALLEY, as romance-obsessed as we are, ate it up (again). The second time around, the show shifted its focus to the characters. Don’t worry though, Rabbi Noah was phenomenal as always.

Expectations: Still Unrealistic

The main characters, Joanne and Noah, start out the season still in their honeymoon phase. As the episodes continue, some obstacles get thrown their way (ooh, shocker). However, with each problem, a solution quickly appeared. With a devout romance audience comes expectations, and wow, these expectations were overwhelmingly met.

The two characters go on dates throughout the entire season. They’re lounging around in each other’s spaces and embracing all types of intimacy. Even when it seems like they’re going to break up, they somehow recover and grow closer together. VALLEY approves of this, but we wish the relationship was a bit more realistic. (Unless they’re just programmed to be perfect, then we take it back.)

Shared Spotlight

The second season, unlike the first, highlighted the side characters’ stories. For example, trouble starts brewing between Esther, played by Jackie Tohn, and her husband Sasha, played by Timothy Simons. The two have been married for over a decade, and the episodes show the unraveling of their relationship.

The season begins with Esther distrusting Sasha because he was texting with Joanne’s sister Morgan (played by Justine Lupe). From there, we see Esther evolve as she realizes her marriage might be over. While this was a stark contrast to the main relationship, it was refreshing to see that the show could be more blunt and revealing.

Oh To Yearn

The beauty of this show is how seemingly impossible the main couple’s relationship is. Yes, the plot tries to break them up, but it never really works. As someone who loves romantic comedies, this is part of the series’ thrill. We expect this cycle to continue, we expect the relationship to bounce back.

While it can seem a bit unrealistic, it is nice to admire something actually genuine and sweet. With its supreme optimism, “Nobody Wants This” gets a stamp of approval for sure. 2025 can be a dark and scary place, but these characters keep yearning alive, and that’s something to be thankful for.
