After facing two lawsuits, the popular energy drink brand, Celsius, has taken quite a hit. It seems like the popular brand is in trouble after first being sued by rapper Flo Rida for breaching an endorsement deal and then facing a class action lawsuit alleging Celsius drinks had misleading labels. The brand recently settled both suits, but it cost Celsius a lot of money.

What Happened with Celsius?

A recent court case, Hezi v. Celsius Holdings, has brought much buzz to the public. The popular beverage deemed itself preservative free, however, it was recently discovered that the drink contains citric acid. While the company claimed they used citric acid as a flavor instead of a preservative, they were still faced with a class action lawsuit. On Feb. 2, the parties reached a settlement in the case, with the settlement fund being set at $7.8 million. According to the class action settlement website, anyone who purchased a Celsius drink between Jan. 1, 2015 and Nov. 23, 2022 could receive up to $250 from the settlement. Whether the preservatives have an effect on you or not, you are still able to take action in order to get some money!

How to collect your payout!

Until Feb. 13, you are eligible to collect up to $250 from Celsius. If you purchased a beverage mix or drink from the company between the allowed dates, then this payout applies to you! There are, however, some stipulations. First, you will need a receipt to get the full reimbursement, but don’t sweat if you don’t have one. Even without a receipt, you can receive a twenty dollar payout. Go to the Celsius class action website to submit your claim. It’s a simple five step process, and basically a way to earn free money. You do have to hurry because this offer only has a few days left.

The Flo Rida Lawsuit

In addition to the newest settlement, at the start of the new year popular rapper Flo Rida — Tramar Dillard — won an $82.6 million lawsuit against the company, which had been an ongoing battle since 2021. Dillard pressed charges against the company for breaching a four year endorsement deal in addition to other financial issues. The company owed him millions of dollars in stocks and bonuses. Although they originally struck a deal in 2014 (almost ten years ago), Dillard was not aware of the mishaps until 2021 (when he pressed charges). After the victorious win, Dillard said, “I have gained a new respect for the judicial system.”

2023 has not been the best year for Celsius… Tweet us @VALLEYmag with your favorite Celsius flavor and let us know if the class action settlement worked out in your favor! Additionally, let us know if we will see you around campus with a Celsius can in your hand.
