Sundays are for the Girls

Does it ever get tiring sitting next to a guy and having to use the dreaded statement, “Yes, I know what a first down is.” For decades, NFL commercials and billboards have been painted with beer and male get-togethers, but that’s no longer the stereotype. Female football fans are carving their own space in football culture. From participating in fantasy football or game-day fashion, it’s clear that women are loyal to their teams and know how to throw a great Sunday watch party. To all the female football fans out there, VALLEY gives Sunday’s to you.

Challenging the Stereotype

For too long, football came along with the narrative that women only watched for the halftime show, the cute players or due to a friend or boyfriend who loves the game. While that may be true for some, die-hard female fans know the game all too well, but that comes with a sad price. Getting quizzed on the players or having someone try to explain everything that’s happening during the game is common for girls. But loving the game doesn’t have a gender rule, Sundays are for girls too.

Game-Day Culture

For women, game day is a day to celebrate (or experience ample amounts of stress and anger due to a team playing terribly). VALLEY has seen the amount of fabulous tailgate and game day outfits that women bring to the table that the men could simply never match up too. Cutting jerseys into tops and skirts and stylish matching sets are two trends that have been seen recently. Alix Earle could be seen at Miami Dolphins games last year in heels! Women can truly do it all while supporting their team, no matter how uncomfy the outfit.

Hosting the Perfect Watch Party

One thing about female football fans, they always know how to host a great watch party. Good energy, great snacks, great company. It’s all about the atmosphere (but mostly the buffalo chicken dip). Some of the essential snacks are wings, chips and dip, soft pretzels and many more of the classic finger foods. Add in some fun drinks, and that calls for the perfect watch party that can be leveled up with decorations or a chill Sunday on the couch.

Football Sundays are about tradition and connection, maybe mixed in with a lot of anger at your favorite team. Regardless, VALLEY is happy that females are defining their way through a male dominated space. This generation of women is made for Sundays, so here’s to all of the women who love the game!
