Rowan Blanchard Was Right

You probably remember Rowan Blanchard from when she graced our childhood TV screens as Riley Matthews in Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” from 2014 -2017. It’s been over a decade since the show first premiered and Rowan hasn’t been dressing like a 13-year-old Riley Matthews for a long while now.

In fact, circa 2019-2020 when Rowan was coming into her more adult style, the internet ripped her outfits to shreds (no pun intended). Those online a few years ago didn’t appreciate her uniqueness and ability to experiment with fashion, yet now the current trends seem to mirror a lot of what Rowan was already deciding to wear.

Rowan’s Style

Rowan is known to mix vintage silhouettes with modern pieces. She was rocking the corset and jeans in 2019 before the extreme revival of the trend that occurred a few years later.

She also loves juxtaposing fabrics or designs, often matching laces and frills with masculine motifs and graphic patterns. She does not stay confined to one style, aesthetic or “rule” when it comes to fashion.

Rowan has been undeniably herself in the way she dresses and never lets the backlash steer her away from that. Her comfortability and confidence in her outfits was another aspect that makes Rowan’s clothes so special.

People Hate Originality

The hate for Rowan’s style stemmed from a lack of appreciation for uniqueness and originality. In 2019, when Rowan first began dressing the way we know her to now, the current trends were very different. Being more alternative or pushing against the fashion norm wasn’t deemed “cool” yet. People were still rocking high-waisted ripped skinny jeans and checkered slip-on Vans. The internet viewed Rowan as weird and unconventional, unable to be welcoming to a style they were not yet familiar with.

Also, Rowan beginning to dress like herself was a shock to viewers who watched her as a child on television. Even though she should have been able to shed the “Disney skin” and grow into a true adult, people still battled with this concept. It almost felt as if they were trying to write her off as another childhood star who was going to fall off the wagon, just because she had a unique style.

Rowan Deserves an Apology

Nowadays, a mere scroll on Instagram or TikTok will showcase five people in a row dressing exactly like Rowan was a few years ago. In 2025 people love corsets, mixing patterns, fabrics, androgynous looks and all of the above.

The internet needs to apologize to Rowan Blanchard and give credit where credit is due. Let this be a lesson learned to embrace people with unique styles because we’ll probably be copying them in a few years time.
