Picture it: your night out has been next to perfect. You’re in your favorite top, your comfiest jeans, and your slick back bun hasn’t moved all night — even though multiple rounds of drinks. Whether it’s Doggies or Cafe or Champs, new memories are made and old memories are nostalgically brought up.
You’re a perfect level of drunk, the kind that makes you feel warm and tingly but won’t make you that hungover the next morning. Maybe you even got to see that new class crush cutie and had some conversations that you definitely won’t be bringing up in class. It’s basically the perfect night. You walk outside and feel the warm breeze as all of your friends depart back to their apartments all on different sides of downtown. You stand on a State College side street and think f*ck… how am I gonna get home tonight?
Ubers right now are crazy expensive and the walk back is way too far, especially considering that your phone is next to dead. Well, the cheapest and most efficient way to find yourself back home after a night out might just be running home from the bars.
Yes, you hear VALLEY right, running. Now we don’t mean running running, nobody is expecting Olympic level performances, but a hefty jog might be the best way home when you really think about it.

Free Ride!
After a night of spending more on drinks and post-bar food that you care to admit, buying a ride home is the last thing you want to do. It’s expensive, especially on weekends, and it can sometimes feel wasteful — especially when the trip only takes 7 minutes. Without a friend to share the cost with, and debrief the night in the backseat, ubering seems kind of pointless and wasteful.
Taking a nice quick jog back to your apartment probably takes the same amount of time that a drive would, and its free. If you do some basic girl math on that, the extra 15-20 dollars that you save on rides could go to your next round of drinks, or maybe that cute top you’ve been eyeing up online. AND when you really think about it, running home from the bars kind of counts as a workout and thus a gym membership for FREE. Even more girl math and that is so much money saved.

By night you’re racing downtown back from the bars, by day you look better and better thanks to your newfound secret workout routine: not paying for an uber.
And think about it. Downtown State College was made for running home from the bars. Each street has paved sidewalks, minimal hills and great walkability for any apartment or house downtown. Wether you’re going down to frat row or running down College Ave, you can pretty much go anywhere your legs will take you.
That Beautiful Drunk Feeling
Now we get it, not everyone loves to run even sober, but there’s something about the tipsy feeling of all the alcohol that makes running not so bad.
We’ve all drunkenly raced our friends outside bars and house parties on the streets, and it doesn’t feel that bad. Your legs have that tingly feeling that makes them slightly numb, your face feels refreshed by the cold air breezing past your face and your mind is too busy thinking about all that happened in the night to think about running. Truthfully, you can basically do anything drunk. You’re unstoppable.
Of course this mode of transportation is not recommended if you’re falling more on the side of blackout, or if you’re actually falling over, but if you have a nice light buzz, running home from the bar might be perfect.
