Easy Ways to Increase Your Protein Intake

As the summer sun begins to shine and we prepare for our beach trips and pool dips, many of us are trying to get in shape so that we can be confident and feel our best.

However, exercising is not the only component necessary to achieving your dream body. Diet is 80% responsible for changes in your physique. One of the most important parts of a balanced diet is protein and VALLEY is here to tell you some easy ways to incorporate more protein into your diet.

We build our muscles by fueling them with protein, which is why it is so important to eat a meal after a workout that has some form of protein in it.

One of the first steps to getting enough protein in your diet is figuring out how much your body needs specifically. According to Healthline, you should consume about 0.36 grams of protein for every pound of body weight. This would equate to about 56 grams a day for the average male and 46 grams a day for the average female. Depending on other factors like activity level, though, that number may be higher.

Protein Bars

Let’s be honest, a lot of the protein bars on the market aren’t always the easiest on the taste buds. That’s why we’ve created a list of a few of our favorite bars that are packed with both protein and flavor.

One of our favorite options is the Barebells line of protein bars. Don’t be fooled. These bars may taste like candy, but they have a whopping 20 grams of protein to fill you up and fuel you up. If you can get your hands on them online or at Trader Joe’s, try the Cookies & Cream flavor — once you try them, you’ll never go back.

For a plant-based option, we recommend GoMacro bars. These 100% organic bars come in a variety of flavors that are sure to please. Plus, they have 10 grams of protein — the perfect on-the-go snack.

Protein Shakes

For a quick protein fix, try one of these delicious and nutritious protein shakes that you can find at any grocery store.

Shakes from Premier Protein are definitely some of our favorites. Packed with 30 grams of protein, you can enjoy flavors like caramel and chocolate peanut butter while getting in the vitamins and antioxidants you need as well.

If you’re looking for a vegan option, try Owyn’s vegan protein shakes. They are filled with 20 grams of protein and fit into most diets, including those that exclude dairy, gluten and nuts. The reviews don’t lie — definitely give these a try.

Protein Powder

After you find the protein powder that you like the most, try adding it to some basic recipes to increase the protein value.

Add a scoop into your oatmeal right after you cook it and top it with peanut butter and fruit. You could also try adding some into your pancake batter to add extra protein and flavor.
