Doggie’s Love Island Speed Dating

This week, a hot new bombshell enters the bar.

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, VALLEY was lucky to partner with Doggie’s Pub located in downtown State College for a special Love Island Speed dating event. Our single islanders (Penn Staters) arrived just after 6 p.m., and they were all ready to mingle and find love.

Tonight …

According to Madison Cole, VALLEY’s Events Director, she and her fellow director, Sadie Willett, came up with the idea of a speed dating event. Cole said that one of the finance girls, Emma, is a Doggie’s ambassador, so this connection marked the beginning of the partnership.

“I’m excited to see how people react to having an event like this in college.”

Katie Shriner, the marketing manager at Doggie’s, was also excited to see how the event would play out, and thinks that it is something the pub could definitely continue to do in the future.

“I just think that Doggie’s is such a chill environment, and people come here to just hang out with their friends. So I think the stakes will be low, the vibes will be great and I think everybody will just have a really good time being here.”

Our islanders received their first texts through the VALLEY and Doggie’s Instagrams, where they were invited to an unforgettable evening.

To sign up, each guest completed either the men’s or women’s form, where they answered questions including what their perfect weekend would look like and one thing on their bucket list.

Upon arrival at the villa (Doggie’s), our islanders were ready to drink, mingle, flirt and potentially meet the overalls to their Rob.

Luckily, the menu for the evening was the bar’s iconic pizza and not Jeremiah’s undercooked pancakes he made for Huda. 10% of the pizza sales also went to VALLEY, which would definitely be Amaya Papaya approved.

“Just come support VALLEY when you can, even if it’s just small events like this, even if it’s 21-plus — we’re doing Doggie’s pizza outside. Come support us, come show up for your team.”

-Reagan March, VALLEY’s General Business Director

After our islanders were all settled in the villa, it was time for the speed dating to begin. They were instructed to head to the back room of the bar, where there was an abundance of tables set up for our sweet singles.

Each table also had two question-prompt cards to help break the ice and inspire deep conversation, but everyone was invited to talk about anything they wanted. Hopefully, everyone was ready to answer questions about their long-term goals, unlike Kordell in Season 6.

“I don’t have any expectations, but it’d be a fun experience.”

The challenge of the evening was the somewhat-unequal ratio of male to female islanders, but this didn’t stop our bombshells from giving it their all.

Since there was a lower male turnout, the boys stayed in their seats while the girls rotated to meet their potential partners. In no time, Doggie’s was filled with chatter, laughter and banter. VALLEY may have even spotted a swapping of digits, but that’s a topic for an “Aftersun” episode …

“Men need to stop being scared of women.”

Although there was no $100,000 prize for the winning couple (That wasn’t in the budget this year) there was an exciting raffle. Two of our lucky islanders each came home with a special Doggie’s clothing item. The crewneck and sweatshirt are both so cute, our winners might not want to share like the cast does with their bikinis.

The true prize of the event, though, was making new connections, enjoying a night out and maybe even snagging a phone number.
