Last month, Hollywood lost an icon. Catherine O’Hara, who was known for her many roles, most notably Delia Deetz in “Beetlejuice,” Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek” and Kate McCallister in “Home Alone” passed away at the age of 71. With her passing, O’Hara left behind a legacy.
Through her most memorable roles, O’Hara set the scene for Hollywood glamour. On and off the screen, she was truly a fashion icon.

Delia Deetz
The film “Beetlejuice” is known for its off-the-wall plot, characters, set design and fashion scheme. From Lydia Deetz’s stringy micro bangs to Delia’s perfectly swooped face-framing pieces, this film flourished in its creativity.
O’Hara channeled this funky style throughout the ’80s with her short, curly red hair and voluminous bangs. Some of her looks had the classic additions of this era, like broad shoulder pads and chunky jewelry.
O’Hara revived some of her old looks last year with the release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” She channeled her beloved character Delia through her red carpet look. Her black-and-cream colored dress was the perfect medley of sculpted and inventive elements, mirroring the same thematic charm of the cult classic film.

Moira Rose
As Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek,” O’Hara perfectly portrayed the eccentric and dramatic character. Her personality was matched by over-the-top costume design, with each episode providing fans with a new, notable look. Throughout the series, O’Hara’s character was never caught without a bright red lip, a statement that will be remembered through this role forever.
Playing the role for almost five years, O’Hara was able to have fun experimenting with the extravagant fashion statements Moira portrayed in the show.
In the final episode of “Schitt’s Creek”, Moira was dressed in all white attire, embellished with gold details and a floor-length wig. O’Hara helped imagine this outfit with the lead stylists on set, bringing the vision to life through her own creative twists.

Kate McCallister
Kate McCallister is one of O’Hara’s characters who is at the forefront of many childhood Christmas experiences. “Home Alone” is the representation of a classic Christmas film. Though O’Hara’s character isn’t a face in the majority of the film, her appearances truly embody the comforting presence of the ‘90s.
Her side-swept hair and oversized suit jacket have parallels to O’Hara’s looks in the early ‘80s from “Beetlejuice.” Yet, with a modern flair for its time, “Home Alone” presents this classic look with a twist.
In recent years, O’Hara traded out her trademark reddish-brown bob for a chic, bright blonde. Yet through each of her varying roles she showcased that Hollywood fashion can be fun and expressive on and off the screen.
