All Penn State students have an impressive array of hoodies, tees and sweatpants displaying their Nittany Lion pride. Because we attend such an amazing school, showing our spirit for it is a given. However, grungy sweats inevitably bring your outfit down and make you feel and look sloppy.

There are many perks to having a boyfriend, but by far the best part of having a boyfriend is his closet. Yes ladies, besides the dates and cuddling, having a boyfriend means that your amount of clothes miraculously doubles… even if he isn’t aware of this.

With New York Fashion Week coming to a close, we can all take a moment to appreciate all of the exceptional street style looks from the fashion industries’ best dressed. This year, there was one obstacle that made dressing stylishly more of a challenge than usual, the polar vortex weather. However, the freezing temperatures and tremendous amounts of snow did not stop these fashionistas from looking their best.

This past Thursday marked the end of another exhaustingly cold, yet beautiful week. No, we’re not talking about the Polar Vortex. We’re talking about New York Fashion Week.

Crop tops are a staple of the spring and are an unfortunate phase for those of us who aren’t blessed with a P90X stomach. And some of us simply don’t care to flaunt the midriff. Luckily, there are easy ways wear crops tops while remaining confident and classy.

We all have a say in what we choose to put on in the morning, but most of us abuse one of our most sacred and principle rights we’re granted in this fine country – that’s right, we’re talking about life, liberty, and the pursuit of personal style.

The sneaker style is on the rise. Karl Lagerfeld solidified the trend by sending his models down Chanel’s Spring 2014 Couture runway wearing kicks. He paired white athletic sneakers with everyday outfits. This trend can be easily copied and adapted to fit your personal style.

From hats to socks, neon colors have been a huge trend for a while now. Yet even after the many years of wearing neon, there is always the question of how much neon is too much. With such bright colors there is a fine line when wearing neon colors turns blinding, which is never fun for surrounding parties. But for those still struggling on how to wear neon, first tip of advice: accent.

Keys? Check. Laptop? Check. Everything is in order as you slip into your everyday boots –both the warmest yet fashionable shoe you may currently have. After locking your door, you begin your freezing, bundled-up voyage to class, only to notice moments later that of all things, your pants are beginning to bunch.

College is about expression, and when students are wrapped up in extra-curriculars and classes, there’s no better way to express yourself on-the-go than through your style. But take a closer look, and the Penn State campus has an interesting take on fashion. Think Animal House meets Pretty Little Liars, and then add a blasé attitude.

Even though the State College streets are icy and show absolutely no evidence of an approaching spring season, new fashion trends are making their way through. It’s time to put away the dreary black totes. Colorful and playful bags ruled the Spring/Summer 2014 runways during fashion week.

Though fashion is all about creativity and freedom of expression, there are basic, unspoken rules everyone knows. Black and navy together? Watch your step. Legs or cleavage? Never both. And always keep your LBD on hand…blah, blah, blah.

Stilettos, sling backs, kitten, and cone heels are not common words used in the college male vocabulary. Are men oblivious to women’s fashion trends or are they just not interested in them? Are men even aware to what women are wearing on their feet?

One thing I learned in my first year at Penn State is to wear the right shoes. I walked away at the end of the year with plantar fasciitis…ouch. In very simple terms, it is a tear/strain in a ligament underneath the arch of your foot. So yes, it is very painful and it makes walking long distances uncomfortable.

During the holiday season, and especially during New Years, metallic colors are a huge hit. From sparkly blacks to bright gold shades, almost every product from heels to makeup came in some sort of metallic palette this past winter.

The holidays shouldn’t be your only excuse to go into sequin overload. As A Little Princess once taught us, all girls are princesses. Instead of actually wearing a tiara (because we all know that’s just going too far), slip some sparkle into your everyday look.

Valley is ringing in the New Year in a completely new way… through a male perspective. Winter is a time for slacking off with our wardrobe choices. It is much easier to throw on a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt as we head to our 8 a.m. classes than to worry about what looks “good.” Here are some suggestions on ways men can dress up this winter season.
