When the mid-semester stress gets to be a bit too much, the effort we put into our grocery lists tends to plummet. But with one simple pantry staple, we can make an endless list of delicious meals to get us through the rest of the semester. It is nothing new. It’s just rice.

Types of rice
While it may seem simple at first, rice can get complex. For one, there are so many different types to choose from. Wether it be white or brown rice, sushi or basmati, pick your favorite and stick to it. Or, if you are up for a challenge, cook different ones for all your different rice meals.
How to cook
Rice makers are the easiest way to cook rice, but many cultures opt for a traditional stovetop method. In college, the rice cooking process overall could be overwhelming, but after giving it a whirl for the first time, it is not as intimidating as it may seem. If it is really too hard, these days, many grocery stores, like Trader Joes, offer pre-made microwavable frozen rice packets. And hey, breaking the rice cooking barrier leads you to endless options of meals.
Chipotle style
Chipotle has never tasted better. Make Chipotle your way from the comfort of your own home. Get all your favorite fixings. Cook your protein of choice, add in your toppings, of course all over a bed of rice. The same concept could be interpreted poke style. Chop up all the poke bowl toppings, and combine!
Sushi
Get your roll on and have an at-home sushi night! It is easier than it looks. And hey, you’re off to a great start already with your rice. The perfect pairing of your roommates and YouTube videos on how to roll sushi will make for the perfect night in activity.

Rice pudding
Rice is not just reserved for our savory meal cravings. What if I told you the same rice used for that sushi can be used for a decadent rice pudding dessert? Cook your cooked rice, milk, sugar and eggs until your desired thickness. Dress the pudding up with some raisins or chocolate chips!
Stir fry
Take things hibachi style with a classic stir fry over rice. Chop up all your vegetables and sautee them with a protein of your choice. Add in your favorite stir fry sauce and seasonings. For an extra protein boost, top with a hard-boiled or scrambled egg. Chef’s kiss!
Rice + protien
The simplest and easiest, yet one of the most delicious. You cannot go wrong with the classic rice and protein combo. Chicken, beef, steak or turkey are all great meat options for this basic bowl. For the fish lovers out there, try adding a piece of your favorite fish. Salmon, tilapia and tuna steaks are all great choices here!
