Watch out world, a new Tommy girl has stepped up to the plate, and she is shaking things up. Starting in the spring of 2019, Zendaya will be the new women’s global ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger. Her arrival comes following Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger launching their fourth and final collection of Tommy x Gigi partnership. In the past, Hilfiger and Hadid debuted collections in New York, Los Angeles, London and Milan that channeled visions from rock ‘n’ roll to motorsport.
Hilfiger has brought Zendaya on board with the mission to revamp and appeal to the millennial generation. While Zendaya will be repping the typical Hilfiger chic style, the partnership is also promoting a celebration of “self-expression, individuality and empowerment,” according to the brand’s post on Instagram.
Hilfiger applauds Zendaya staying true to the American spirit while upholding loyalty to oneself by making bold statements through fashion.
Zendaya is no newbie to the fashion world, as she has teamed up with previous campaigns such as Dolce & Gabbana and Covergirl. To exceed that accomplishment, the popstar icon even launched her own label, Daya by Zendaya in 2016.
The launch of Tommy x Zendaya “see-now-buy-now capsule” collection is set to take off in February, but a specific date has not yet been announced.
“Her style is quite eclectic. It goes from casual to elegant and formal. She’s passionate about fashion. She loves getting really involved in the fabrics, the various colors and the drape of the garment,” Hilfiger said in a statement to Women’s Wear Daily.
Zendaya’s youthfulness, talent, and captivating personality are all factors that strengthen her credibility taking on this project. She promotes diversity while advocating for women rights, and has even spoken on issues such as black women in entertainment — all topics that Hilfiger welcomes warmly.
From modeling for Macy’s to Disney Channel, this author, actress, singer and dancer is now adding Tommy Girl to her list of achievements.
The partnership with Hilfiger is one she is proud to be a part of.
In a statement to Elle, Zendaya commented, “Fashion is more than just wearing cool clothes, it’s a way to celebrate self-expression and individuality, which is extremely empowering.”
