The ice still hasn’t thawed in State College yet, but in a few short weeks, the spring season will be underway. The snow will melt, the flowers will bloom and campus strolls will feel a lot more pleasant. Finally, we’ll get to swap the jeans for shorts and the turtlenecks for tank tops.

If you’re counting down the days until you can walk downtown without a winter jacket, now’s the time to start thinking about spring fashion. VALLEY spoke with Carly Fizzano, a Penn State graduate and assistant buyer for Pennsylvania-based boutique Stile by Per Lei, to find out the latest trends for Spring 2022. Check out these trends to be the most stylish person on campus this spring.

Bold Colors

After attending the MAGIC Fashion Trade Show in Las Vegas, Fizzano noted color trends that differ from the currently popular winter neutrals — “I noticed a lot of bold colors. There were less patterns and florals, and more solid-colored styles.”

The hottest colors this spring? According to Fizzano, Kelly green and Bubblegum pink will take over the season. So, if you rocked a green outfit for State Patty’s last weekend, you’re already one step ahead!

Fun Fabrics

In addition to bold colors, expect a lot of new fabrics to choose from this spring. In particular, Fizzano noted terrycloth as the fabric of the season. “We’re seeing terrycloth in sets, purses and scrunchies,” she says. Overall, the hot fabrics for spring seem to be more casual, with linen, crochet and open-knit pieces dominating the season.

Masculine Styles

Get ready to elevate your #girlboss look this spring. Fizzano predicts that the blazer trend will continue for the upcoming season, but in lighter fabrics to accommodate the warm weather. Expect tons of trouser pants, trouser shorts and blazer sets in fun colors this spring. Besides these business-inspired staples, boxy styles and collared shirts will also be popular.

Finally, if you can’t get enough of cozy sets this winter, we promise you’ll still see a lot of them in the spring. Fizzano noted the popularity of terrycloth sets, linen sets and boxy short sleeve sets at the MAGIC trade show. Leisurely styles will define the season with these casual monochrome looks.
