Another day, another A24 movie being announced. A24 Films LLC, otherwise known as A24, is a film and television company that was founded in 2012 by David Fenkel, John Hodges and Daniel Katz.
What Exactly is A24?
A24 is an independent film and television production company. Independent films are known for being low budget productions, which is true of all of A24’s films and television programs.
I was with a bunch of friends…and we were driving into Rome, and I kind of had this moment of clarity. And it was on the A24 [motorway]. And in that moment I was like, ‘Now it’s time to go do this’
Daniel Katz
In 2013, the production company received buzz for producing “Spring Breakers,” “The Bling Ring” and “The Spectacular Now.” Some of A24’s most notable films include “Moonlight,” “Lady Bird,” “Midsommar, ” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” and “The Iron Claw.”
In the last year, several A24 films that were released include “Priscilla,” “MaXXXine,” “We Live in Time,” “Heretic,” and “Queer.”
It is worth noting that A24 has also produced successful television shows and documentaries. They are responsible for producing “Beef,” “Pod Save America,” “Euphoria” and “This Place Rules.”
There’s no questioning that A24 projects all have a certain look and feel to them. The productions are all visually pleasing, because they allow directors to have freedom in the creative process.
Indie films, and A24 have a positive reputation among cinephiles for being aesthetically pleasing. All of their productions certainly do not shy away from being detail oriented and focusing on the small picture in the grand scheme of things.
Accolades
2017 was a big year for A24, as it was the first time one of their productions won an Oscar. “Moonlight” was directed by Barry Jenkins and released in 2016. The film won three Academy Awards, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Supporting Actor, which was awarded to Mahershala Ali.
“Everything Everywhere All At Once” is the most decorated A24 film. It was released in 2022 and directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. The film won seven Oscar awards in 2023, including Best Picture, Best Writing (Original Screenplay) and Best Film Editing.
What’s Next for A24?

Josh Safdie, who co-directed the A24 blockbuster, “Uncut Gems,” is currently working on a film called “Marty Supreme.” The film will feature Tyler, The Creator in his acting debut, alongside Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Additionally, “The Drama,” a film directed by Kristoffer Borgli, is currently being filmed. The movie stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
