The Faces of Parents Weekend

To some, parents weekend is a weekend to see the ones they love most. But, to many others, parents weekend is a student’s own personal hell. A reminder as to why they moved away for college. A push to get better grades so you can land a job right after college….. And not move back in. Whatever the feelings may be, parents weekend is definitely a cannon event for any college student.

Your old life merging with your new one. But, one of the main factors in determining the outcome of your parents weekend, are your parents themselves. You know, how they act in a college setting. For many students, you have no idea – or at least not until your parents are let loose in the realm of your college campus. While it may be hard to predict how your parent’s may act, there are a couple main categories that your parents probably can fit into.

The party parents

Some may call them the cool parents. The parents that know how to have fun. They are shotgunning beers and shaking their hips that don’t lie. These parents are here for a fun time, and they don’t care what anyone else thinks about it.

The stuck in college parents

One step further, are the parents that still wish they were in college. They may start telling stories about their days in Greek life, or say something along the lines of “Back when I was in college…”The point is, they are living vicariously through you. Take it as a compliment and let them reminisce on the good old days.

The helicopter parents

Despite the vibes of the party parents around them, some parents just can’t let loose. No they will not jump on the keg. They will be in bed by 9pm and will make sure you are tucked in by 8. They came to see what your college life is like and it is safe to say they are not fans. Good luck trying to get them to come back next year.

The shy parents

These parents don’t really know what is going on. They may hide in the corner and scroll on their phone. They probably feel a little out of place. Maybe a drink will lighten them up a bit, but it’s safe to say this is not their idea of fun.

The overly excited parents

Penn State shirt. Penn State hat. Penn State shoes. Penn State flag? They need it all. They are just happy to be there. Everything Penn State is a must and the camera has to be out at all times. They can’t forget to capture every single moment of this Penn State Parent’s weekend bliss.
