This weekend marked the end of a huge era in the music industry: Taylor Swift’s: The Eras Tour. Spanning over a year, 21 countries, five continents and 149 shows, the Eras Tour set records that the world never knew were possible.
The show that made Swift a billionaire came to a close last weekend on Dec. 8, when Swift took her last bow in Vancouver. Let’s recap on everything fans hoped to see, and what they are still disappointed they didn’t see.
Not only did Swift tour for over a year, but since the release of her album Midnights she also released three albums while on tour: two re-recordings, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in July of 2023, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October of 2023 and a brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department with an extended second album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology in April of 2024.
Adding The Tortured Poets Department set to the setlist came in early May when Swift took her tour to Europe, along with the new mashups of surprise songs that had fans longing to go again.
One thing fans were sure of, was that in Vancouver, would come the long awaited Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Since before the release of The Tortured Poets Department, fans have been conspiring about the re-release of the arguably most iconic album in Swift’s music career.
Some of these would have definitely made an amazing announcement, however unfortunately, we are still waiting for Reputation TV.
The anticipation, besides special announcements at these last shows, are Swift’s surprise songs. Vancuver night one consisted of “Haunted” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and “Wonderland” from 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on guitar, and on piano, a mashup of “Never Grow Up” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and “The Best Day” from Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
Night two, on guitar Swift brought out her opening act, Gracie Abrams to sing Abrams’ song “I Love You, I’m Sorry” from Abrams’ The Secret of Us, and “Last Kiss” from Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). On piano, Swift sang a mashup of “The Tortured Poets Department” from The Tortured Poets Department and “Maroon” from Midnights.
The night three surprise songs could not have been more perfect for the last night of The Eras Tour. Swift began on guitar with a song from her debut album, Taylor Swift, singing “A Place In This World” and mashed it up with “New Romantics” from 1989 (Taylor’s Version). On piano, Swift mashed up “Long Live” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), “New Year’s Day” from Reputation and “The Manuscript” from The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. Swift started and ended her surprise songs with a song from her very first album, and the last song on her most recent album.
So, after almost two years of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, we are left with hundreds of memories, and one thought: Whats next?
