The Don’ts (or Do’s) of Winter Break

We’ve waited 15 long, dreadful weeks, but the time has finally come for Winter break. These weeks off from school are much needed, but it leaves some of us wondering what exactly we should be doing with all this spare time.

Thankfully, Valley has a few ideas of what you definitely shouldn’t (or, then again, maybe should) do with your time this holiday season.

Don’t: Spend your entire break preparing for (or stressing about) next semester. We are going home for a break after all, and let’s face it, it’s been a tough fall semester. You deserve it.

Or, DO: Spend your entire break preparing for (or stressing about) next semester. You know you can get off the GPA “struggle bus” if you start studying NOW and ace all your classes before they even start, right?

Don’t: Sleep all day every day. It’s great to be home, but you aren’t really accomplishing much by sleeping all day. Take this time to do things for yourself, like get a mani-pedi, go shopping or exercise more.

Or, DO: Sleep all day every day. You’ve spent 15 weeks straight barely sleeping and relying on caffeinated beverages to keep you going. Why aren’t you spending your entire break in bed?!

Don’t: Eat so much food on the holiday that you can’t move. Food coma. Ouch.

Or, DO: Eat so much food on the holiday that you can’t move. We know it— college food sucks. So savor every last bit of your grandma’s famous holiday dinner. It’s worth the pain.

Don’t: Ignore your family members and friends from home. It’s probably been a long time since you’ve seen each other and you know you’ll have some amazing stories to tell if you take the time to catch up!

Or, DO: Ignore your family members and friends from home. You went away to college for a reason, and you saw your friends over the summer, no big deal. And you don’t really want to listen to good ol’ Aunt Hellen ask you about your “wonderful GPA” and that “hot” boyfriend/girlfriend you seriously do not have.

But really, enjoy the break. It’s been a long, long semester Penn Staters. Happy holidays!
