There comes a specific time that both freethinkers and logical minds come together in shared confusion: creating party invitations. Of course, a party itself comes with so much planning and imagination when figuring out exactly how to merge your three different friend groups together, but getting everyone you know to that event seems to be an entirely different sport itself. Especially when inviting people you’re not that close to, first impressions are absolutely key. All of that starts with the party invite, and it’s crucial to not forget about them (of course, unless you like hanging out in your bed on another Saturday night).

The Ingredients
Now, just like a perfect chocolate cake, it’s very easy to mess up. However, with the right ingredients, there is no doubt that it can be done. Unfortunately, yes, you do need to include the five “W’s” when crafting your invite because no one likes a last-minute get-together at a location an hour and a half away.
It can be pretty easy to find out the dress code, but please make sure your invite matches the vibe of the party too! So if you’re celebrating someone’s twenty-first at a club, maybe don’t put black tie graphics all over, unless you have the funds for a sit-down. Using online graphic tools, like Partiful, can help keep invitations cohesive and make it seem less like a list of demands in sketchy handwriting.

Mystery is Key
Here’s a pro tip: everyone wants to feel like they’re part of something exclusive. So by adding certain phrases like “Limited availability,” people would rush to RSVP because they want to be on the in. Additionally, using terms like that makes the party feel more put together and planned out. Dropping hints of what the party would be like is also a plus because no one likes walking into something completely unknown.
To increase the rate of your RSVP, you could even tell a fib or two: for example, say you’re catering exclusive Mexican food, even if it’s just from El Jefe’s. And honestly, if they get mad that they’re getting free food, maybe you should rethink how close you should be to them, killing two birds with one stone.

Decoding
Finally, receiving the RSVP’s is an entirely different art. “Maybe” often means “no, but I don’t know how to tell you,” and “Let me check my calendar” means “I’m also figuring out a way to say no, but I want to seem put together.” And don’t be afraid to say no yourself: if your apartment can hold a maximum of twenty people, don’t hesitate to reject someone’s plus ones.
The most important thing to remember when crafting your party invitations is that it’s your party. Don’t forget to be a welcome host, but have fun yourself! After all, maybe you can even set the trend of creating the best invite known to man or even accomplish having more than ten people show up.
