As the colder weather comes into State College, it becomes more difficult to resist it: comfort food! Chinese cuisine makes for excellent comfort food. VALLEY is here with a list of local Chinese takeout restaurants for you in State College.

Big Bowl Noodle House

Big Bowl Noodle House, located at 418 E. College Ave., is an excellent choice if you are coming with an appetite. Their name is not inaccurate: these are big portions in the best way! Big portions allow for sharing with friends or family and putting together a family-style dinner with plenty of options. Big Bowl offers options that allow customers to choose their favorite type of noodles, rice or protein, giving a flexible aspect of customization. Their menu comes with a variety of options for soup, poultry, seafood and bubble tea. Big Bowl is cash-only, so come prepared.

Little Szechuan

Tucked away at 228 W. College Ave., Little Szechuan is a Chinese restaurant with indoor dining and takeout options. Their menu presents an abundance of variety, including vegetarian and vegan options. Little Szechuan’s menu offers beef, poultry, seafood, soup, rice, lo mein, appetizers, steamed “Dieter’s Special” options for a lighter take and more. Their online ordering system allows the customer to plan their dinner in advance. Whether you live on or off campus, Little Szechuan is an accessible and delicious option for dinner.

Yummy Cafe

Similar to Little Szechuan, Yummy Cafe at 320 E. Calder Way advertises serving Szechuan-style food. According to Szechuan House-Lutherville, “Szechuan cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, or Szechwan cuisine is a style of Chinese cuisine originating from Sichuan province in southwestern China. It has bold flavors, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from liberal use of garlic and chili peppers, as well as the unique flavor of the Sichuan pepper.” Yummy Cafe also shows a large menu with a variety of traditional dishes, and Uber Eats and DoorDash makes Yummy Cafe accessible to those who may not live within a walkable distance.

Uncle Chen’s

At 430 E. Calder Way, Uncle Chen’s Chinese Restaurant offers a series of specials and deals to make Chinese cuisine more affordable for patrons. Their menu includes a daily special, lunch special, combo special and a dinner for two at $22.95 special. They also advertise a special menu of “Chinese Students’ Favorites.” Uncle Chen’s is open until 11 p.m., making it a great option for night owls craving Chinese cuisine or a late-night study session dinner. Uncle Chen’s has traditional dishes, vegetarian and vegan options, milk tea, smoothies, health-conscious options and more.
