Leading up to the announcement of her next album, Adele decided to have some fun with her fans. She wanted to tell the world of her return in style, and that she did.

Before Adele could officially announce her plans to release new music, fans had started speculating about a new album drop after mysterious billboards were popping up all over the world.

Last week, giant billboards started appearing in countless major cities in countries across the globe, including the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Italy, Germany and the U.S. Each billboard depicted a blue background with a bold “30” in the middle. Not soon after, projections of the image were appearing on iconic landmarks like the Empire State Building in New York City and outside the Louvre museum in Paris. But what could these curious 30s mean?

Adele fans were quick to decide that this meant a new album. After her past few albums — 19, 21 and 25 — had been named after her age while working on the music, it wasn’t hard to figure out what this 30 could mean. Now at the age of 33, Adele has been through some life-altering events since her last release.

On March 4, 2021, Adele and her former husband Simon Konecki finalized their divorce. For a songwriter like Adele, who is known for her devastating break-up songs and heartfelt love songs, this divorce was sure to have given her some inspiration.

Even though fans had been long awaiting new music from the pop singer, Adele took a while to confirm their suspicions. Finally, on Tuesday night, she answered all our burning questions.

Adele began setting all her social media backgrounds and profile pictures as the mysterious blue background pictured on the billboards. She then posted a teaser video on Instagram and Twitter of an upcoming single, “Easy On Me.” The song is set to be released on Oct. 15, which will hopefully be followed by an entire album of belt-in-the-car-at-the-top-of-your-lungs songs (because we wouldn’t expect anything less).
