If you don’t know the name Elton John, you should. He began his career at a young age and has taken over the music industry one hit song at a time. Some of his most popular songs include, “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” For the people that may not be as familiar with Elton John as others, VALLEY made a Spotify playlist of his must-know songs.

Since Elton John became a household name, he has accumulated millions of fans as well as gone on a multitude of tours. However, John is currently on his farewell tour titled “Farewell Yellow Brick Road.” It is only fitting that as John says goodbye to performing, he should be memorialized on the silver screen.

On May 31, 2019, Taron Egerton will play Elton John in his biopic titled “Rocketman.” With the first official trailer dropped only a few days ago, there is already talk about it shaping up to be as good as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the Freddie Mercury biopic that was released in November of last year. This true story, however, will have aspects deriving straight from the imagination of John himself since he is alive and well to be a part of the making of the movie. John produced it himself and has had a vital part in its creation.

In the newly released trailer, the premise of the movie is the journey of Elton John, from childhood to now, shining a light on the obstacles he had to face throughout his career. Alongside Egerton as John, the cast also includes Richard Madden from “Game of Thrones” and Bryce Dallas Howard from “Jurassic World.”

One surprising thing about this biopic in particular is the fact that Taron Egerton does all of the singing as John, where as in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Rami Malek, who played Freddie Mercury, did not. As surprising as it is, Egerton sounds remarkably similar to John, which is why many people would assume he’s not the one singing.

John himself gave Taron advice for playing the role. We can only imagine how intimidating it must be to play such a titular role and to have the person it’s based on still be alive to tell you how you’re doing. That doesn’t seem to be stopping the pair from working closely together. Taron and John can be seen in numerous photos together as well as performing “Tiny Dancer” together at John’s Oscar viewing party this year.

This movie is not only the perfect way for Elton John to say farewell, but to also leave another iconic mark on the world.
