No Flame? No Problem.

October means sweater weather, hot chocolate, and candles. However, for many students who live downtown, some apartment buildings don’t allow candles. Don’t stress about not being able to smell your favorite holiday scent this season, we’ve got some candle dupes that will suit your needs.

Wax Melts

The second best thing about seeing a candle lit is smelling the scent. If you are a candle lover and can’t have open flames in your apartment, wax melts are the next best thing. Bath and Body Works has a bunch of different scents ranging from holiday favorites like Frosted Cranberry to aromatherapy scents like Stress Relief, which smells like eucalyptus and spearmint. The wax melts run for $4.50 on their website, but they always have mini deals online, so be on the lookout. If you decide to do this dupe, you need to buy their Fragrance warmer, which is $16.50 on their website and then buy all the wax melts your heart desires. You just place the wax melt inside the warmer and you’re ready to go.

Essential Oils

Essential oils have become more common because of the way they make us feel when we smell them. You can use essential oils directly on your body for aromatherapy or you can use them in diffusers to help make your house smell lovely and fresh. Target has an Ultrasonic Fragrance Diffuser for $19.99 that is small enough to place on any surface without taking up too much space. The essential oils are about $7.99 each at Target as well. A little goes a long way with essential oils so you will be able to get a lot from that $7.99 purchase. They have oils that help with falling asleep, staying balanced, and staying positive. This one is perfect for college students who don’t have much space for a living room table or counter, just place it on your windowsill and your good to go.

Reed Diffuser

A reed diffuser is similar to essential oils, however, you would purchase a specific scent each time. The reeds soak up the oil and disperse the scent into the air until the oil runs out. Target has reed diffusers starting at $10.39. Some of the scents include white linen, bamboo palm and mandarin berry. These are great for areas where you don’t always have to keep an eye on it to replace it as frequently like with essential oils. We suggest this one for the bathroom because it could double as a cute counter decoration and makes the whole room smell fresh all the time.

Plug-in scents

These are the most affordable and the easiest when it comes to setting it up. You just get whichever scent you want and insert it into the plug-in. Target has a range of glade scents including vanilla passionfruit, apple cinnamon and lavender. The scents come in packs of 3 for $4.99 at Target. The actual plug-in costs $1.27. These last a while and you can decide how much scent you want to be released by adjusting the plug-in.

Whether you can’t have a candle in your apartment or are just looking for alternatives to candles, these are some great ones. Using these throughout the holiday season will make every night a cozy and warm one with whichever scent and alternative you choose.
