Some people dream of finding their true love. They try dating apps, speed dating or mewing too hard at bars. For actor Colman Domingo, and his husband, Raúl Domingo, it was easy. Before we get into their fairytale love story, VALLEY wants to give you the rundown on these talented men. Success recognizes success, and sometimes, love can bloom.
Colman Domingo
For Gen Z, Colman is recognizable as Rue’s sponsor, Ali Muhammad, in “Euphoria.” He also played the role of Mister in “The Color Purple” (2023) and “William Burke” in “Candyman” (2021). Truly, his range knows no end.
In addition, this writer must discuss Colman’s impeccable style. From Dior to Valentino, he has stunned on the red carpet time and time again. (Plus, he’s one of the co-hosts for this year’s Met Gala!)
Raúl Domingo
Raúl attended the Austin School of Film and studied directing. This education would help him later on as he held various roles in the film industry. Like Colman, he loves entertainment and how films have the power to tell a story.
Raúl has had a rich and successful career in the entertainment industry. He wrote the short animation “New Moon” (2022). This animation won “Best Animated Short” at the Savannah Film Festival and the Raindance Film Festival. Apart from his role as a writer, he’s produced films like “Sing Sing” (2023) and “It’s What’s Inside” (2024).
The Story
20 years ago, the pair saw each other at a Walgreens in Berkeley, California. They didn’t say anything to each other but kept exchanging glances. A few days later, Colman scrolled through Craigslist. (For those who don’t know, Craigslist is an online platform where you can post ads and apparently, meet your soulmate).
As he went through the ads, one caught his eye. It was from Raúl! In the description, he detailed what Colman was wearing and what he was wearing. Raúl apologized for not speaking to him since the friend he was in the store with was rushing. The two went on a date soon after.
They’ve been married for two decades. Rom-coms cannot compare to this story of true love and chance. Forget about “10 Things I Hate About You,” forget about “When Harry Met Sally,” this is a real life story of stars aligning. VALLEY is glad to know that people can meet their soulmate anywhere, as long as it’s the right time.
