Our eyes do a lot of work for us, often without us noticing. They are constantly working from the moment we wake up until we finally go to sleep, and then it starts again the next day.

According to an article by HexArmor, one eye contains more than two million working parts, and “the muscles that move [our] eyes are the fastest and strongest muscles in [our] body.”

As a generation that spends a lot of time on devices for both school and leisure, we put additional strain on our eyes from staring at our screens. Given all of this activity, it’s important to know how to look after our eyes so they can continue to perform their best.

Here are some simple ways to care for our eyes, helping them stay rested and recharged for each new day.

Face Rollers

Rollers are a popular beauty trend used gently under the eyes, as well as on the face, forehead and neck. In a blog post about rose quartz face rolling, the author states that these tools are believed to “improve blood circulation and overall skin tone, remove wrinkles and puffiness, reduce dark undereye circles, eliminate toxins and promote lymphatic drainage.”

Rose quartz rollers are particularly relaxing on the eyes due to their cooling effect, which can be enhanced by placing the roller in the fridge or freezer before use. With light pressure, roll outward away from the nose under the eyes to encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness. The roller is a quick, easy step to add to your morning or nighttime routine. They can be purchased from Amazon or at your favorite beauty store.

Cooling Eye Gels

Eye gels act like a face mask for under your eyes and are especially relaxing after a long workday. They come in both reusable and one-time-use options depending on your preference. Reusable patches can be chilled in the freezer before use to help reduce eye swelling, strain and redness.

Eye gels are also effective for curing dark circles from late nights, such as those during college. Ulta offers many cute and affordable hydrating eye gel options that can ship right to your door. Grab a pack for your next self-care night to help your eyes rest and refresh.

Sleep masks aren’t just for blocking out lights when you’re on a flight. According to Healthline, sleep masks can help block out unwanted light creeping into your room, making it easier to fall asleep faster. For those who struggle to drift off, they also provide a calming effect.

The New York Times reports that recent research shows that “wearing one at night helps with memory consolidation, the ability to learn and alertness the next day.” Sleep masks can also protect your eyes from dryness, especially if you prefer to have a fan on at night.
