For many, indulging in a personalized skincare or beauty routine is an important aspect of daily self-care. However, it is crucial to make sure that the products we use every day minimize harm to the beauty of the environment the same way that they bring out the natural beauty in all of us.

Fortunately, there are many brands within the cosmetics industry that offer high-quality, yet sustainable products.

A Gen Z cult favorite, Lush Cosmetics is recognized for its vibrant bath bombs and skincare products packed with innovative ingredients, all vegetarian and made by hand. If you’re searching for a face mask made with cocoa powder, this is the one for you!

Lush’s greatest strength lies in its approach to environmental sustainability. Upon entering one of its stores, you may notice just how little packaging the brand uses. According to its website, around half of Lush’s products are sold with no packaging whatsoever. When it comes to offerings that simply cannot be sold unpackaged, Lush heavily favors recycled materials, with nearly 90% of its packaging being repurposed material.

In addition, Lush encourages customers to recycle by offering a free face mask to patrons who return five empty mask jars to one of its stores. The brand’s kindness to nature is also shown in its commitment to being 100% cruelty-free. Sustainability is certainly at the forefront of Lush’s business model and we are happy to include the brand and its curious cosmetics on our list.

In browsing cosmetic treasures at Sephora, you may come across this luxurious eyeshadow pallet by Aether Beauty, a critically acclaimed brand at the forefront of the sustainable makeup space. The creator of the brand, Tiila Abbitt, holds a place on Sephora’s sustainability council, and her affinity for the environment has led her to create the beauty industry’s very first zero-waste eyeshadow pallet.

She removed the conventional mirror and magnets from the product’s design to ensure that the entire pallet can be recycled after all the pigments have been used.

Her entire line is clean, vegan, cruelty-free, and child-labor-free. In addition, the company donates a portion of its sales to environmental charities, cementing Aether’s place as a go-to brand for makeup lovers who wish to reduce their waste and give back to nature.

If you are looking for high-quality, blendable formulas from a brand with a minimized environmental footprint, Aether Beauty is certainly a company worthy of your interest.

Another skincare brand praised for its commitment to sustainability is Aveda. This beauty giant was the first company of its kind to begin selling products in 100% post-consumer recycled material. It is also a pioneer in clean manufacturing, impressively obtaining 100% of the energy needed to produce its offerings from renewable wind energy.

Capitalizing on its environmentally responsible practices, the brand recycles over 80% of its own waste and repurposes it in its production facilities. Vegan, cruelty-free and committed to becoming a certified zero-waste company, Aveda clearly puts its money where its mouth is and is surely one of the first brands to come to mind when it comes to beauty that respects the environment.

With such a vast list of offerings and a focus on sustainable efforts, Aveda deserves the consideration of all skincare lovers who wish to consume clean and ethically sourced products.
