Freckles For Fashion

VALLEY can’t believe it but this semester is quickly coming to an end. Even though we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to campus, this also means that summer is just around the corner. For some of us, as the sun comes out, so do our freckles. They appear around our noses, on our faces and even on our arms, whether we want them to or not.

Some people love their freckles but others despise them and attempt to keep them covered at all costs. No matter what kind of relationship you have with your blemishes, VALLEY is here to tell you that your freckles and natural beauty spots are your cutest accessories.

Natural Looks

When it comes to a daily makeup routine, why not use your freckles as your natural makeup? Freckles are cute and summery, and can give you the perfect sun-kissed look without even having to try. VALLEY is a strong proponent of a natural look, especially for the summer. For those long days by the beach or pool, a lot of makeup isn’t necessary, and may eventually end up smudging from swimming (and sweating).

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.

Next time you go out for your post-beach dinner with friends, ditch the foundation and instead simply apply some lip gloss and a bit of mascara. Pair your natural look with your favorite fit and a slick-back hairstyle to achieve the perfect “clean girl” summer aesthetic.

For an effortless daytime look, go bare-faced with your favorite sundress. Curl your hair to add some beachy waves, put on your favorite jewelry pieces and embrace your natural beauty. Trust us, you’ll look amazing.

Trending Now: Freckles

If you’re still not sure how you feel about your freckles, VALLEY would like to remind you that they have been an ongoing, trending look.

Thanks in part to social media, people are now embracing their freckles instead of feeling ashamed of them. Those without them are even applying their own freckles with makeup, demonstrating that these blemishes are seen as marks of beauty, not imperfection.

A Vogue article explains the freckle trend and how TikTok tutorials about creating replicas of these blemishes have popularized this look. The author, Megan Nolan, adds that Charlotte Tilbury “has helped create or emphasize freckles for Prada and Chloé,” using her “Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Iconic Nude” to add freckles across the face.

Nolan also notes that pop stars such as Olivia Rodrigo admit to adding freckles “all the time.”

When executed well, freckles can pleasingly disrupt the uniformity of a face neutralized by foundation, breaking through the mask of perfection just enough to feel fresh.

Nolan adds that not only are freckles a fashionable look, they are also a reminder of beautiful summer memories.

Now they seemed only one more delicious reminder of the minutes I wanted to hold on to, and a promise about the sort of woman I would be, one who lived willfully and romantically and mostly out of doors.

Freckled Fashionistas

VALLEY would also like to highlight some models and popular figures who rock their freckles and wear them with confidence.

Vogue gives a shout out to some of these icons in their article, “13 Rule-Breaking Beauties Who Made Freckles Iconic, From Twiggy to Penelope Cruz.” A few figures mentioned include Patti Hansen, Charlotte Rampling (pictured below), Mia Farrow and Emma Watson, along with Twiggy and Penélope Cruz.

Twiggy, a friend of Charlotte Tilbury, said that her freckles “come out in the sunshine, like flowers.” By embracing their blemishes and sharing their positive views, these figures have emphasized the importance of self-love and accepting what makes you unique.

Confidence Is Key

Whether you try the bare-faced look or stick to your usual makeup routine, remember that the best look you can have is confidence. Freckles are cute and stylish, so wear them proudly. Most importantly, embrace all of your natural blemishes and show off what makes you unique — that’s when true beauty shines through.
