This news comes only a few months after John performed at the Royal Albert Hall on Oct. 17, where he was helped off stage by fellow performer, Dua Lipa. John was renowned for his illustrious and exciting concert performances, however his typical energy was missing on this night, which left fans concerned for his health.

In an Instagram post from Sept. 3, John said, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process.”

The eye infection left him with partial sight in one eye initially, but seems to have gotten worse since.

John said that this has been a tough time for him as his ailment limited his work. However, he pointed to his husband, David Furnish, as his “rock,” who has helped him through this trying time.

John said that his loss of vision was due to a severe eye infection which he had been suffering from since the summer.

John’s new show is derived from the 2006 movie of the same name which starred Meryl Streep. The 2006 film was based off of the novel “The Devil Wears Prada,” written by Lauren Weisberger. The tale follows a young journalist who must find her way through glamorous, and sometimes unforgiving work of a fashion magazine.

While the book and subsequent film were met with high praise, the musical was met with polarizing reviews with one review going so far as to call it “diabolical.” The show will run at London’s Dominion Theatre until May 31, 2025.
