Call It A Night

It’s happened to all of us: The music is hitting, and everyone is in a good mood, saying, “Just one more!” Then, before you know it, it’s 4:00 a.m., you’re wearing someone else’s sunglasses, you can’t find your wallet and you are wondering who these random people are that you ended up with.

Sometimes, the best nights out don’t come from the “perfect plan” but rather from the spontaneity or even chaos of a night that refuses to end. By not calling it and being open to anything, these nights end later than they probably should, but sometimes, they turn out to be the best ones. There is mystery to where you’ll end up, or even who you’ll end up with and the random stories in the morning will make any hangover worth it.

Having no plan and not knowing what you’ll be up to an hour from now can be daunting, but trust your future self to have it all figured out. Spontaneity isn’t for everyone, it’s learning to let go of control just enough to open yourself to the unexpected. When you stop overthinking and start finding yourself saying “why not,” you create a whole new experience, usually one that fits the vibe way better than any schedule could ever have. Going with the flow doesn’t mean being reckless, just open to where the night can take you.

The more you practice embracing the unknown, the easier it will become to live a little and trust that everything will work out. From accidental deep talks with a stranger whose name you’ve already forgotten to randomly ending up at an after-party in someone’s kitchen, you’ll be happy you did. It might not be glamorous, you might never see these people again, but these stories you’ll end up telling forever.

Waking up in the morning might have you feeling like a detective to understand and remember everything that went down, but you can live with the peace knowing you’ll have the best story at the roommate debrief. While it’s important to know your limits, letting a night unfold may surprise you with where it can lead. So every once in a while, don’t call it and go home too soon because the stories of the best nights rarely start with “we stuck to the plan.”
