Most of us have heard the saying, “Each time you donate blood, you can save three lives!” And it’s true; every two seconds a patient is in need of a blood transfusion that could save his or her life.
Because we know how vital donated blood is, Valley has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive. “Bleed Pink” with Valley this Tuesday, Nov. 3, by donating blood in Alumni Hall in the HUB between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Blood donated through the Red Cross will help treat trauma victims, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and numerous other patients.
Blood donation is especially vital to patients with certain cancers. In fact, a member of our Valley staff is a cancer survivor herself, due in part to blood donations she received while she was sick.
It’s so important for healthy individuals to donate blood in general, but especially those with the O negative blood type, as it is the universal donor and can be given to any patient, regardless of his or her own blood type.
For more information on Tuesday’s blood drive, visit our event page on Facebook . To schedule a donation, make an appointment at redcrossblood.org or by contacting Allie DeBor at alliedebor@gmail.com. See you all there!
