Are Buzz Cuts Coming Back?

While buzz cuts never truly went away, long hair became an easy hairstyle for men around the time of the pandemic. A few brave souls opted to buzz their heads, but most guys just let their hair grow wild. Everyone was obsessed with shaggy cuts like the “wolf cut” that trended on TikTok, and after that came the mullet mania. However, it’s time for buzz cuts to make a comeback.

The Cut in Pop Culture

Buzz cuts are nothing new, and many famous film characters have rocked the look. For a second, let’s ignore the incredibly relevant themes of rampant consumerism and toxic masculinity in “Fight Club” and just focus on Brad Pitt’s hair. His iconic look as Tyler Durden remains a popular Halloween costume, and there are even Reddit forums analyzing the haircut and how to ask for the style at the barber. Maybe you prefer “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” but there is no denying that Brad Pitt owns the buzz cut look.

It’s no secret that major fandoms have thoughts about men’s hairstyle trends. Whether you’re a fan of “Outer Banks”, “The Hunger Games” or something else, discussions about different hairdos can get pretty intense. Fans thirsted after Drew Starkey as Rafe in Season three of “Outer Banks,” where he sported a buzzed look. However, when “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” came out, fans debated whether Snow looked better before or after his military cut. With so much online discourse surrounding the hairstyle, it may seem like the style will never fully make a comeback, but only time will tell.

Recently, Hyunjin of Stray Kids showed up to the Fall/Winter 2025 Milan Fashion Week wearing Versace with a bleached buzz cut. Donatella herself calls him “The Versace Prince,” and his hair even featured the brand’s name and its iconic Greca pattern on the sides of his head. In the past, Hyunjin was known for having longer hair, but this dramatic shift has caught the attention of publications like Teen Vogue.

The Case For The Cut

If buzz cuts truly make a comeback, the good news is that the style is low maintenance. There’s no need for style products or any fancy tools. It may seem like a big change, but less hair means fewer bad hair days. A big change can also be a great way to reinvent yourself, and college is the perfect time to do it. If you’re ready for the risk, use hair dye or spray to create unique hairdos. Don’t get it twisted—going full Andrew Tate isn’t a good look (unless you’re Pitbull), but a big change can elevate one’s personal style. Fashion is cyclical, so while everything comes back eventually, let’s hope buzz cuts are coming back soon.
