A Guide to Penn State’s Health & Well-being Promotions

As spring semester carries on and the snow continues to fall, it’s easy to get lost in the repetition of things. Luckily, Penn State offers many resources for its students to learn about the importance of health and wellness, as well as creative ways to integrate these topics into their lives. VALLEY has all the details about these free programs for you to check out!

Wellness Wednesdays

Hosted by student educators working in the HealthWorks program (a student peer education and outreach program that promotes health at University Park), Wellness Wednesdays intend to help you grow! Interactive classes discuss a variety of topics and are focused on improving the health participants. Wellness Wednesdays occur every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m – 4:45 p.m. in 20 Intramural Building. Check out some of the upcoming Wellness Wednesday events!

Yoga & Meditation

If you can’t make it to Wellness Wednesdays, be sure to stop by the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center for a grounding yoga and meditation session. Instructor Sima Farage teaches this class from 5:15 p.m – 6:15 p.m. every Wednesday in room 107. This class is open to all but there are only a limited number of mats and blocks, so make sure you get there early!

Thursday Wellness

Is Wednesday a busy day for you? Try stopping by 20 Intramural Building on Thursdays for wellness classes instead. With a variety of topics and facilitators, you are always in for a treat. Supplies are provided for each class, so all you need to bring is an open mind! Classes run 5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. every Thursday. Mark your calendars with some of the upcoming Thursday Wellness classes!

Wellness Hour

If you can’t make it to any of the classes or just want to chat with someone about your health and well-being, stop by Wellness Hour. Every day from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., peer educators are stationed around campus to help you gain information and insight on a multitude of topics. In your 10-minute session, you can talk about physical activity, sleep, nutrition, stress, healthy relationships and more. If you feel like 10 minutes isn’t enough, the peer educators can also provide you with other resources for further information. Check out some of the Wellness Hour locations for your very own 10-minute health and wellness session.

Thursdays: 134 Johnston Commons
Fridays: 123 Pollock Commons

Relaxation Room

Located in 20 Intramural Building, the Relaxation Room is open to any and all students looking for a place to relax and unwind. Open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekdays, the room features biofeedback computer softwares, relaxation and mindfulness tracks to listen to, light therapy boxes, a zen sand garden and spaces to study. No appointment is necessary so you can stop by anytime!
